It was a celebration of Laura and Mike Pogue’s 35th wedding anniversary that took them to Kenya, where they spent several weeks on a guided safari tour. They spotted majestic lions, herds of elephants, unpredictable wildebeest and observed tribal bushmen. But truth be told, what happened after their safari is what remains most vividly etched in Laura’s mind.
She and Mike were invited into the home of their safari guide, a primitive mud hut where this Oxford-educated guide, Minduri lived with his wife and young baby. They met his family, shared stories and got to witness firsthand an entirely different way of life. In all of Laura’s travels, being invited into their guide’s home remains one of the most memorable and life-changing events she’s ever experienced.
Making It Personal
Laura knows that experience is a direct result of making it personal. She took an interest in Minduri and engaged him in conversation that went beyond the typical tourist questions. And in return, he shared his own unique story with her – his family and home. Laura’s personal approach transformed the safari trip into an experience with deep and long lasting connections. In fact, Minduri, Laura and Mike kept in touch until Minduri passed away a few years ago.

For nearly 20 years, Andrea Wells shared her professional expertise as a wine distributor selling to major grocery chains. For Andrea, the role went far beyond simply selling cases of wine. It was about educating the buyers about each boutique vineyard, the various wineries she represented and the unique nuances in each wine itself. When her customers understood the stories behind the product and the importance of finding just the right wine for different dishes, Andrea was able to help her customers more fully appreciate the wine market and build lasting relationships.

Anmarie grew up in many different states along the east coast from Presque Isle, Maine to Key West, Florida before settling here in the Carolinas. Her experience in construction and, particularly, remodeling homes led her to see that she really likes seeing a home’s story – incorporating it’s history and unique features with current trends. From remodeling her own home to owning a private home cleaning business, Anmarie understands the pride homeowners feel for a well-cared for property!
Anmarie transitioned to real estate sales over seven years ago and really enjoys getting to know Team Pogue’s clients and learning about the history of the properties in our market. She chose to work with Team Pogue because they prioritize their client’s goals. “Laura and Andrea’s personal touch extends not just to their clients, but also to their team. Senior Loan Officer, Movement Mortgage
A Senior Loan Officer with Movement Mortgage, Mike first started working in the finance industry over forty years ago. During his career, he has worked not only as a Loan Officer, but also as a Financial Planner with New York Life and MetLife, Inc. “I have a good head for numbers and really enjoy problem solving. Working with clients and helping them achieve their financial goals is challenging and rewarding,” shared Mike.
Mike has been focused on the mortgage lending market since he opened his own mortgage brokerage in 1984. His strength is that he really understands how to utilize the products in the market creatively and successfully. He enjoys being part of Team Pogue because he can work with clients and really be part of helping a transaction go smoothly from start to finish. As Team Pogue’s in-house mortgage specialist, Mike is readily available to help qualify and offer suggestions for financing options for seniors. Those options change significantly upon retirement.
